IT IS A HARD DAY’S SLOG

i see his furrowed brow,
and the calloused and gnarled hands,
his back bent with age
but never a grumble is uttered,
as he earns his daily bread.

it is a hard day’s slog, in Manila’s thick smog
driving along the city’s crowded streets and through the Philippine sun’s searing heat
with dogged determination to finish his daily beat.

he patiently inches his way, in and out of the crazy metro traffic
which, to some first-time Manila visitors, can look pretty shambolic!

but tirelessly he works, day out, day in
to lovingly provide for, and feed a family of ten.
