“The Crack On My Wall”

Sharing a two-and-a-half-minute short film presented during the 2013 Philippine PEN Conference under the topic “Literature and the Media Arts in the Quest for Peace” at De La Salle University, Manila.
It was written, directed & edited by Danny Castillones Sillada.
“It seems that finding peace today, particularly in my homeland in Mindanao, cannot be deliberated without politicizing and commoditizing it through mass media and mass culture. My way of finding peace is to confront the source of conflict and its indelible stigma in the human psyche in a satirical manner through my works.”

Thank you Danny.

Road Trip to Pampanga: Bale Dutung

One day in April, we joined Harry Thomas (the former U.S. Ambassador to the Philippines) on a road trip to Pampanga, where I’m told the best Filipino cooks come from, and entered the home of Claude Tayag and his wife, Mary Ann. We were treated to sumptuous festival of flavorful food. But before the food fest began, we were welcomed with a bit of background on the origins of the “wooden house” before it became the spot known to be attended by several world famous chefs…

….and so we ate our fill..

Mary Ann serves the main dish: Kare-kareng Laman Dagat!

Until next time!
